A few days later he went back and shot his first meadow.&nbsp; Since then, Moore has set out to create a rush of images in the series now amounting to 100’s of compositions. But For the Wisdom fully immerses the viewer in an abundance of impossible detail. There is freedom in the process - although they are captured in camera, Moore doesn’t see the final image until the films are developed. With these layered compositions there is a reverberation, an energy that is particular only to nature. roadside, succulent peaches we devour, dusty skin and all, comes the familiar dust of summer, dust we eat. O, to take what we love inside, to carry within us an orchard, to eat not only the skin, but the shade not only the sugar, but the days, to hold the fruit in our hands, adore it, then bite into the round jubilance of peach. What I found was a series of botanical specimens reflecting a universal symmetry. They bring to mind images that the Hubble telescope captures from deep space. about by nature and then by art, does not contain one of the secret cyphers of the universe?" Roger Callois This project is an investigation into the pattern inside iron meteorites, photographed at the Natural History Museum's archive in London. These meteorites were formed around 4.5 billion years ago at the beginning of our solar system. It is thought that life may have arrived on Earth on a meteorite. They spend uncountable years travelling through space, acquiring mass through chance encounters, growing, changing. My great-grandfather, RJG Collins, was a well known philatelist and designed the iconic 1 penny Kiwi stamp from the 1935 2nd pictorial series in New Zealand. All the stamps are from his collection. Photographing them requires a similar kind of attention to detail and concentration as the process of creating and collecting these stamps, and so I feel I am connecting to him through this process.By printing large I want to shine a light on the period in history in which they were created and the incredible craftsmanship involved. I shoot them on a large format film camera to bring out as much of the detail as possible. I print them by hand from rolls of fibre-based silver gelatin paper in my darkroom going as large as 50 x 60 inches. Raising the stamps above the background allows them to cast a strong shadow and they acquire a third dimension. This 3D quality can also be seen in the indentations of ink from the intaglio engraving that forms the image. <img width="2800" height="3500" width_o="2800" height_o="3500" in the earths crust. It began in my home town of Christchurch where earthquakes have become commonplace. There is an uneasy feeling throughout the area which is experiencing regular aftershocks. The city centre is still being rebuilt and large swathes of land around the river lay derelict and unable to be redeveloped. These double exposures seem peaceful and disconnected from reality but the overlapping of the ocean and geology is suggestive of the fragility of the land sitting on these fault lines. These are my attempts to capture their essence before they wilt.The images are intentionally blurry with mixed lighting and skewed colours. I isolate them from their stems to capture some of the tension I feel about them. Tension between the enjoyment of the flower as a beautiful natural object contrasted with the fact that it was probably grown on a farm for temporary indulgence.
